How Covesight works
The truth about "remote," checked every night.
"Remote" gets used to mean a lot of different things: work from home in one city, work from anywhere in one country, or work from anywhere unless you count the fine print about time zones, language, or residency. Most job boards repeat whatever the listing says. We check it.
Every night, Covesight rescans more than 50,000 job postings across 662 hiring systems, Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday and SmartRecruiters boards companies actually post to, alongside careers pages and direct feeds. It isn't a one-time check at the moment a job goes live. A job can be open today and restricted tomorrow, or quietly close and stay listed everywhere else. We look again every night, for as long as a listing exists, so what you see reflects the latest scan's reality, not launch day's.
The scan reads the fine print people skim past: phrases like "US only" or "Anywhere in France" (which usually means France, not anywhere), timezone language like "must overlap 4 hours CET," language requirements buried mid-paragraph, whether a salary is stated or estimated, and how recently a listing was actually posted or last confirmed live. Each becomes a labeled, structured fact attached to the job, not a guess about what "remote" probably means.

Here's the part most boards skip: what happens when a job fails a check. We don't delete it, and we don't pretend it isn't there. If a "remote" job turns out to be locked to one country, we show that lock, plainly, on the listing, so you can judge whether it still applies to you. The one thing we do remove is a job that fails the nightly rescan entirely: gone from the source, expired, unreachable. No ghost jobs sitting in results for weeks after they've closed.
Three states, never guessed
Every remote-claiming listing ends the night in one of three states. Locked: the listing contains a requirement that limits who can take the job, a country, a region, a timezone overlap, or a language. In the latest scan that was 11,098 of 12,755 listings, 87%. Confirmed open worldwide: the listing states it explicitly, 261. No lock found: nothing restricts the job, but nothing confirms worldwide either, 1,396. The three add up to every listing we serve, and the state is labeled on every job.
We could call those 1,396 no-lock-found listings locked and quote a 98.0% lock rate. We don't, because we didn't find a lock. We found nothing either way, and reporting an absence of evidence as evidence would make our own headline number dishonest. 87% is the number we can defend: 11,098 listings where we read the clause that locks them.
One more thing worth knowing: employers do not pay us. No paid placement, no paid listings, no featured slots. Boards that charge companies per posting have a reason to keep a dead listing up a little longer. We have none. The only people who pay us are job seekers, which is exactly why a listing that fails the nightly rescan is dropped the same night, whoever posted it.
If we get something wrong, a lock we missed, a listing that's actually closed, tell us. Every job has a report-a-problem link that reaches a person, not a queue. We'd rather fix the scan than have you find out the hard way.
